Scarlet Ibis Essay (Body Paragraph 1)
In The beginning, the narrator is shameful of his new brother, but learns to love and take pride in him. For example, when Doodle was born, the narrator’s family all thinks he is going to die, except for Aunt Nicey. All the narrator wants is a brother to run and jump and play with, but when his mother says that “if he survives he will never be able to do those things and might not even be ‘all there’,” he hates him. The narrator wants someone to play with, and his brother is crippled so can’t do many things the average person can. When his mother says that the baby might not even be ‘all there’, the narrator’s unhappiness increases more and more because then they might not even be able to hold a decent conversation. Later, the narrator is watching his brother when “he looked straight at me and grinned.... ‘Mamma, he smiled! He’s all there! He’s all there!’ and he was.” On his third winter, he learns to crawl so they take him to the living room put him on the carpet. He crawls backwards and looks like a doodlebug, so the narrator names him Doodle. A few years later, the narrator decides to teach Doodle how to walk; and succeeds. At first, Doodle was a pitiful sight, but everyone in the family loves him dearly now.

What I have learned this year:
I have learned that I write better when I'm working with multiple people on a project. For instance like when I'm writing a story or play. For example even though our play script didn't get chosen for the final play production, I felt like writing together in a group was better than if I had done it alone. Another example of what I've learned is how to write more complex essays . I've also improved on my essay writing this year. Although I still still need work on them. I can improve by working on getting my thoughts down on paper. This has always been a challenge for me. Some goals I have for writing next year are finishing some stories that I have started writing. Also to keep improving on my essays and writing skills in general. More goals for next year are getting better at writing lengthy and excessive descriptions for assignments that require me to do so.
